On average, a central air conditioning unit can last anywhere from 15 to 20 years. If your AC unit is anywhere near this age, you should definitely get started on scouting for a replacement. As an old AC unit consumes much more energy than newer models, you may end up saving a tidy sum if you buy a new one.
