Spring Cleaning Project: Your Air Conditioner

Spring is right around the corner, and what better way to welcome it than by beginning with your annual spring cleaning? Among many other rooms, nooks and corners that need cleaning after months of cold weather, you should also remember to take this opportunity to clean your HVAC system, most especially your air conditioner, to ensure that it will continue cooling your home efficiently.

Check It Out

First things first–you should be able to check your air conditioning unit before proceeding to the actual cleaning. Is there a dust build-up, or does the filter need replacement? Simply replacing the filter can save you a lot on your energy bill, and eliminating dust build-up on vents can ensure air flow efficiency.

Listen for Noise

When turning on your air conditioning unit for the first time after months, listen for excessive levels of noise from the fans or the compressors, which are among telltale signs of problems or damage that require immediate attention from experienced technicians. In doing so, you can avoid bigger repair costs and prevent your unit’s total failure.

For Central Air Conditioners

While central air conditioners would certainly provide widespread cooling for your home, maintaining them can get quite difficult yet preferable than having to deal with a broken one. You can begin by straightening bent cooling fins and cleaning the condensing coils.

With these simple tips, you can be assured that your air conditioner is in working order in time for summer.
