How to Make Air Conditioners Last Longer

Maintaining your air conditioning (AC) system is a delicate, but very important, task. After all, if your AC isn’t clean and well-kept, it will become less efficient at its job and will consume more power as time passes. Of course, given that AC can be rather complicated, you’ll need to find a reliable contractor who can help you out—especially when it comes to cleaning your AC’s evaporator and condensing unit.

If you insist on doing things by yourself, you might want to start with the external air filters as these are the easiest to clean. Inspect the filters and see to it that they are free from dirt, grime, and blockage. However, it is still best to leave the actual cleaning process in the capable hands of a trained technician who not only knows what cleaning agents to use but also how to properly remove the filters and the like.

The blowers should be your next priority because they are likely to be filled with dust after months of operation. Aside from regular cleaning, blowers should also be lubricated periodically to keep them in good working order. If you know how to take apart the blower assembly, you can do the cleaning and lubrication yourself. Otherwise, hire a pro for the job.

One more thing: see to it that the entire air conditioning system is unplugged from the power source before any maintenance job commences.
